Scotton Scorchers Junior Football Club was first started in 2003 by two dads and nine children using the village green as a pitch. Run solely by volunteers the club now has its own pitches and club house with nearly 200 boys and girls registered, playing in a number of local leagues on Saturday mornings, looked after and coached by over 50 qualified and registered coaches, assistant coaches and parent helpers. In partnership with Leeds United we run a girls ‘Skill Centre’ for the 13 to 17 age group and again, with Leeds United, we run ‘Wild Cats’ sessions for the under 6 to under 13. The clubs aim is to create a safe environment where the ethos is about having fun and meeting new friends. At Scotton Scorchers every child counts irrespective of ability. The club does not have a win at all costs approach and believes that every child should be given the opportunity to play at a level that they feel comfortable with and being supported to develop not only their football skills but communication, confidence and social skills too. Our “all-inclusive policy” does not mean sacrificing competition or a winning mentality, we believe we can achieve all these things whilst the children enjoy their football. Who are Fitmums and Friends (Fitmums)? We are friendly, sociable and supportive running clubs located across the UK. You don't have to be fit or a mum to join. Men, dads, grandparents are all welcome! We have very specific systems of support which means we can support people of all abilities from complete beginners to people who are regularly active. Everyone is fit enough for Fitmums' activities. We ensure that every activity is tailored to individual needs. At Harrogate we normally offer run distances of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 miles at each session so that you can just fit into the distance that feels right for you. Each distance has a dedicated qualified leader. You will be encouraged to run at your own pace and not feel any pressure to go faster than you are able. You don't need to worry about holding people up. We use a simple system known as 'shepherding' to enable all standards of runners and walkers to exercise together. Shepherding accommodates mixed abilities in a group and still provides a challenge for those who are capable but supports those who need to go at a slower pace. We’ve been going almost four years now and attendees have been of varying ages, fitness levels and running experience. What they have had in common is that they want to get fit, whilst having fun with friendly like-minded people. Currently sessions are limited to 1, 2, 3 and 4 mile groups. Start times are staggered from 7:15pm by distance group. These sessions are led by UK Athletics (UKA) Run Leaders. We offer 3 free sessions and if you like what we do you can become a member for an annual fee of £36. This gives you access to all Fitmums Clubs and sessions in Yorkshire & Humberside as well as access to on our online yoga, Pilates and fitness classes. Founded in 1995, we operate on a completely voluntary basis and are run by enthusiastic parents. Our core values are to ensure that the social aspects of team sports are highlighted as much as the technical elements of football and that football is an inclusive game appropriate for all children. We have an established infrastructure in place to ensure continuity through all age groups and we run teams in organised Leagues from Under-8 through to Under-18 inclusively and run an open age team in the West Yorkshire division and a veterans team in the Harrogate & District league. We also have a Nursery section which provides coaching for children from as young as four years old before graduation to the Under-8’s. In addition, we provided coaching for girls of all ages.
